I Totaled my 2000 ford mustang gt at an intersection, it was my fault. I ran into a car, and that car hit the car in front of him as a result. So technically i was responsible for damages of 2 cars. It makes no sense as a lot of people have licenses for ID only and do not have a car (because they aren't allowed or can't drive): By law if you have a driver's license you are supposed to carry insurance whether you own a vehicle or not. It's usually called non-owner's liability coverage. Because of this law they would be able to suspend your license if your company cannot provide proof that you have coverage. In Texas renting a car. Back in California you rent a car, then you can either get 3 choices: I don't want insurance . This means its on you. They can't foce you to insure the car. $11/day . This covers the rental car only and not the damage you may do to other cars or property. $22/day . Full coverage. Covers anything that can happen. Now I live in Texas. And Dollar, Enterprise, Hertz...tell me the same thing... If you do not have your own car insurance, you must pay $23 per day for insurance which covers everything . How do I avoid this? Seems very expensive for a several week long rental....insurance costs as much as the car.
